It was an excellent and exciting fantasy season, with a number of new players in the league, but sadly at long last it's over. Looking at the standings coming into Sheeptopia we knew it was going to be an exciting finish and it didn't disappoint. Let me set the stage.
Hermann, thanks to a brilliant showing the previous round in Spain, had a solid 20 point lead over Me Ventures, a comfortable margin, but not insurmountable. Just six points behind Dusty was Nobody, with McNewbie a scant single point behind him. Mathematically any four of these spots could change in GB, but to dethrone Hermann one of the other three would have to make a heroic (and immensely lucky) charge. The front four were of two minds with final selections, Hermann and Nobody taking Ogier, Hirvonen, Kubica, and Neuville, Dusty and McNewbie taking Ogier, Neuville, Ostberg, and Sordo. Things looked bad before the start for this latter pairing as Sordo was hit pre-race with a five minute time penalty.
The battle between McNewbie and Nobody for the third and final podium spot ended early with Hirvonen and Kubica both crashing out, giving McNewbie the spot. Now it was a battle for the lead. Could Ostberg and Sordo score enough points to erase the 20 point gap between Dusty and Hermann? I can't speak for Hermann but I watched nervously, panicking when Mikkelsen passed Ostberg, cheering when Ostberg took the spot back, and wishing Sordo back up through the ranks. Finally the rally ended and the points were tallied, resulting in...
A TIE! With Ostberg and Sordo scoring a combined 18 points and 2 bonus points for correctly calling the order of the drivers Dusty Me scored exactly 20 points over Hermann. With no official tie breaker methods announced at the start of the season the only fair option is to declare dual winners. Hermann and Dusty both take the title. As for the best average championship, well McNewbie totally ran away with that one like her name was Sebastien, with a full four points per event more than second place Hermann. If only she hadn't missed making picks at Germany, she would have run off with the whole thing.

Woo, my strategy in not playing the last two rounds so I don't nuke my average points score got me a place on the podium.

Podium finish for me!
Next year will be awesome, since we'll have more factory drivers and hopefully a tighter championship. Thanks Dusty, for doing all this work so we can have fun.
